Problem with old Person Documents Replicating Back In
Fri, Mar 20th 2009 5:49a   Michael V Brown
I was talking to a customer recently who had an issue where old person documents kept replicating back into the Directory. In our conversation to find a way to stop this from happening, the following ideas came up as possible solutions. Just wanted to share our thoughts with everyone in case you find yourself with the same issue. Option 1: Set up Deny Access List for Servers: Everyone has a Terminations Group for users as they are removed from the Domino Directory. Notes 8: How the Help About Dialog pulls data
Tue, Mar 17th 2009 4:04p   Michael V Brown
Here's a screen shot from my Notes install which I manually modified. Can you guess which version of Notes am I running? More important, how did I do this? The "Help - About" Dialog pulls the version numbers from two different locations. First, C:\...\Notes\framework\shared\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.notes.client_8.0.2.20080809-0430\about.mappings (if a hotfix is installed the folder will most likely contain the hotfix version like "\...\com.ibm.notes.client_8.0.2.20080809-0430-CCH3\ [read] Keywords: expeditor ibm lotus notes eclipse

How to control the Fan speed on your Thinkpad
Thu, Mar 20th 2008 11:12a   Michael V Brown
I recently kept experiencing my Thinkpad T60p getting very hot and occasionally locking up when playing certain games. I found a program that would allow me to control of the fan speed so I can increase the RPMs. http://sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/ Please read the readme.txt file first as the developer explains some of the settings in the INI file. Technote 1099635 - Which Domino Server databases have replica IDs related to names.nsf
Mon, Mar 10th 2008 9:59a   Michael V Brown
I came across this technote and did not realize the pattern that exists for certain database replica IDs that are similiar to Domino Directory's replica ID. Thought I would share. http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21099635 The replica IDs of some Lotus Domino® server databases are related to that of the Domino Directory (names.nsf). Which ones are related and which ones are not? LScript to Check for Domino Server "Slow" Downs
Fri, Feb 1st 2008 4:42p   Michael V Brown
Have you ever had end users report the Domino Server is responding slow but by the time they call you the Server is no longer slow? I recently encountered this issue with a customer and wrote the following LotusScript to try and prove when a server is responding slow. The LotusScript will go into a Loop trying to open a database on the server, report the time duration to open in seconds and then sleep for so many seconds. The idea is every 5 seconds you try to open the names.nsf, record h [read] Keywords: admin , agent , document , domino , lotus , lotusscript , database , db2 , server

SNTT - How to find Person Docs without Mail Files
Thu, Jan 24th 2008 7:00a   Michael V Brown
If you have ever experienced a problem with old Person Documents replicating back into your Domino Directory, you know how much of a pain it can be to identify them. Here's a quick LotusScript that will check for the mail file specified in the Person Document and create a document in the database if either the mail file can not be found or if the User ID the agent is ran under doesn't have access to the mail file. The agent can either flag the Person Document by adding a field to it. This [read] Keywords: acl , admin , agent , document , domino , lotus , lotusscript , sntt , database , server

Some nice information on Mass emails
Mon, Nov 19th 2007 4:09a   Michael V Brown
Here's a technote about how to handle an issue you might see on Domino when sending mass emails through your servers. Sometimes mass emails are sent by the Administrator to notify everyone; however, sometimes end users have been known to send very large emails to several hundred people and not realize the impact they cause. Then they start a massive chain reaction when people keep choosing "Reply to All" instead of just "Reply". Technote 1227966: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss? Slowing Opening Mail File after AdminP Rename - Regression in 7.0.2
Fri, Nov 16th 2007 5:49a   Michael V Brown
Came across what I consider to be a critical regression issue this week. The issue first appeared in 6.5.x code and was fixed in 6.5.2. The issue appears to be back in 7.0.1 and 7.0.2. I discovered this while onsite with a customer when users were complaining about how their Notes Client hangs for 1 to 2 minutes when moving an email from the inbox into a folder. We resigned their folders with a different name and the problem was immediatly resovled. Please be aware of this when renaming use [read] Keywords: admin , adminp , domino , ibm , lotus , notes , notes client , email

For many of us, we all know you can issue a "TELL HTTP RESTART" to quit and reload the Domino HTTP Task. However, issuing a "TELL ROUTER RESTART" will not work. For those people who have been around Domino to long and quit reading about all the new little features that are introduced, I just came across something that was introduced in Domino 6 and decided to share it since another long time Domino Admin of 10 years did not realize this new command was new available. SNTT: How to quickly check your Mail File Size
Fri, Jul 13th 2007 7:03a   Michael V Brown
Ever wanted a quick way to check your mail file size? Here's an easy button you can place in an action bar to allow the end user to quickly get an idea of how large their mail file is including the percentage of whitespace without having to open the database properties infobox. I placed my button as an action in the Form "Switcher Form for Mail" so it appears in the top left corner of my mail file where you switch between Mail, Calendar and Todos. You can place it anywhere. SNTT: Track who is deleting documents
Fri, Jul 13th 2007 6:47a   Michael V Brown
The question will eventually come up, who deleted this document from the database. Well, if you are familiar with deletion stubs and tracking the Universal ID from the document to the deletion stub, you know that you are only able to determine when a document was deleted and not who. Multiple times now I had reports from customers that "Domino is deleting my email again". After troubleshooting and monitoring it has always been discovered that the Administrative Assistant was cleaning up the E [read] Keywords: admin , document , domino , lotus , lotusscript , sntt , database , email

SnTT: Compact ques requests from Notes Clients in Domino 7
Thu, Apr 19th 2007 6:00a   Michael V Brown
Another change in Domino 7 is how the compact task treats a request from a Notes Client to compact a database. If you are use to deleting email from your mail file and then going to DB Properties and clicking compact to regain your whitespace, this still works just not as fast. Depending on how busy the server is, the request to compact the database is placed in a que until the server determines it is not to busy. SnTT: Domino 7 Heads Up with new RnRMgr task
Thu, Apr 19th 2007 6:00a   Michael V Brown
Just a heads up for those of you recently or about to upgrade to Domino 7. With the introduction of the new RnRMgr task to help manage Rooms and Resources, I've discovered an interesting dilemma that can occur. The RnRMgr task requires that the busytime.nsf exist. If you have a habit during maintenance of deleting busytime.nsf and letting it rebuild, you will probably notice sometimes the RnRMgr tasks errors our and fails to load. The reason is because when the busytime.nsf does not exist, [read] Keywords: admin , domino , lotus , notes , sntt , development

We have all been in situations where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 101%? What equals 100% in life? Updated DB to Collect Stats and Config v1.2
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 7:30p   Michael V Brown
Update on the Database to Collect Stats and Config for your Domino Servers. Been testing and found a few problems. Addressed them in this version along with some minor other changes. Main thing is I found that the SH STAT command would return more than 32K of data for a text field on certain servers so I had to change that to a Rich Text Field. I made the same change for SH CONFIG as well just in case that command grows over time. If you find the tool useful, please leave feedback. Database to Collect Stats and Config from your Domino Servers
Thu, Feb 22nd 2007 12:00a   Michael V Brown
Over the past few weeks I have slowly been working on a database that would provide Domino Admins with the ability to collect the stats and configurations about their Domino Servers and then report back on that information in simple views. What I have created is an agent that you can run manually or on a schedule that will connect to the Domino servers you specify and issue the following commands to the console and return the results: SH SERVER SH TA SH CONFIG * SH STAT Once the res [read] Keywords: admin , agent , connect , document , domino , lotus , lotusscript , community , database , email , profile , server

Prints in the Sand

Most people have heard the poem, "Footprints in the Sand". This is similiar but more enjoyable. One night, I had a wondrous dream; One set of footprints there was seen. The footprints of my precious Lord, But mine were not along the shore. But then some stranger prints appeared, And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?" "Those prints are large and round and neat, But, Lord, they are too big for feet." "My child," He said in somber tones. "For miles I carried you alone. I chall [read] Keywords:
